Minnesota Winters can be harsh – here are a few tips in keeping your septic in tip top condition.
1. Do not drive over the septic area any time of year. As the weather turns cold, driving over your septic even with four wheelers and snow mobiles can drive the frost down, causing damage to your system.
2. Cover your septic area (where the pipes run underground) with a thick layer of hay before the snow flies.
3. If you are leaving for an extended time during the colder months be sure that you have either turned off your water in your home or that you have someone coming in to your home to occasionally run water int he sink and flush the toilet to prevent freezing which can crack your water pipes.
